Vitro, the clinician centric EMR; Vitro delivers using your content, your care pathways, your business rules and your clinical expertise. Vitro ensures the users, their content and their patients are at the heart of medical records.. The Path to a Paperless Hospital.
Vitro captures complex clinical data for analysis, allowing you to reduce costs, improve clinical decision support, and ultimately improve patient care & outcomes, creating an electronic medical record – It documents the clinician-patient activity in an efficient & paperless environment, that is familiar and intuitive, it retains the look and feel of your current paper documents, creates an electronic version and adds intelligence.
Move to a stage of the HIMSS EMR Adoption Model that meets your business needs and requirements. Vitro’s inbuilt functionality means that no matter what stage you reach it is already paving the way for you to become fully paperless at stage seven.
Vitro works by taking an image of your existing paper document and using it as an electronic background on which to overlay user controls, Vitro retains your existing intellectual property, increases user adoption and reduces change management. Scripting adds intelligence and the result is an electronic version of your document which now captures your data digitally and in a familiar manner.

“Sláinte Healthcare’s software Vitro will take Bethlehem Hospital in Victoria from paper to paperless in just nine months, transforming the way we operate. Vitro’s Rapid Implementation model has meant we are now able to capture patient data electronically, using the forms familiar to our clinicians with little change management required. We will be able to provide an even higher standard of care to our patients and give our doctors and care providers improved decision support tools.” - Mark Doran, National CEO of Calvary Health Care
"Given the time if you talk about 6 months from ‘wo’ to ‘go’ in terms of getting to the point of implementation it was amazing and I’m not aware of any other site or service that has introduced and form of electronic record that have been able to achieve that. I’m very proud of the work that we’ve done but also very proud of the work that we’ve done collaboratively with Sláinte Healthcare." - Shannon Thompson, Director of Clinical Services
"I am a technophobe. I only use a computer for work purposes I don’t use them in my leisure time, I found it really easy. To tell you the truth I have shown people in my department certain things that are available because it is so easy to use and scroll through." - Joanne Patira – Allied Health Assistant Physiotherapy
"The added extras that we put into Vitro for our application were our safety features that we were able to put into our clinical charts that allow us to ensure things are correctly filled in, that we don’t miss important information or even just that numbers aren’t added up incorrectly… so for us they were incredibly important features to enhance safety in our clinical notes. The thing we liked about vitro technology was that it was intuitive so what we were doing there was looking at the charts as they were in paper and digitalising them so to a nurse on the unit they just look at a piece of paper and it will look the same." - Brenda Ainsworth – National Director Public Hospitals

“We started working with Sláinte Healthcare in late 2013 to implement their Vitro platform throughout our Operation Smile programs worldwide. The requirements we put in front of the Slainte team were significant: we needed to manage and use patient information in disconnected, semi-connected and connected environments; a system that would seamlessly address the diversity of our volunteer health providers, their languages and even cultural requirements impacting our work; a tool that would be so intuitive that even the least technologically savvy could learn how to use within hours; a stable and flexible platform that would allow for growth and modifications based on the needs of the care setting; really something that would allow for our clinicians around the world to reap the benefits of technology while remaining focused on their patients. We also wanted a system that we could use for trend analysis and improvement processes. Within weeks the Sláinte team had already worked a prototype which we took to the field, the response from our volunteer clinicians was overwhelmingly positive! There is a sense of great excitement at Operation Smile and we can see enormous potential in how this is going to help the organization. Working with the Sláinte Healthcare team is a pleasure and we are really looking forward to the final stages of the project this year.” Ruben Ayala MD, Senior VP of Programs and Medical Affairs @ Operation Smile, Inc.

One of the primary functions of the Department of Pharmacy is the preparation and supply of chemotherapy to patients treated in the Day Therapy Unit. Almost all of these products are prepared ‘in-house’ in a state-of-the-art clean room facility located within the pharmacy department. The ‘manufacture’ and labelling of each product for every patient is ‘controlled’ by a work sheet which was produced manually by dispensary staff. The work sheets and labels were then supplied to the clean room the day before or on the day of the patients’ scheduled treatment.
Due to the fact that every work sheet and label was produced manually proved to be a considerable workload for the dispensary and clean room staff and also meant there was significant opportunities for errors relating to the spelling of patient names, dates of birth, names and strengths of products, expiry dates and batch numbers. The preparation of these work sheets and labels was extremely labour intensive and meant that clean room staff were always ‘catching up’ with patient appointments and pharmacy staff were working long hours with considerable overtime being accrued.
In December 2013, approximately one month after opening, a decision was made to engage Sláinte Healthcare to create and electronic chemotherapy manufacturing work sheet in ‘Vitro’. This was done with the objective of automating a number of the manual steps in the preparation of the work sheets and also removing error-prone data entry by using patient information contained within ‘Vitro’ such as patients name and date of birth. The new functionality of ‘Vitro’ went ‘live’ on 24 February 2014 after comprehensive testing.
The advantages of using ‘Vitro’ in the preparation of clean room work sheets and the partial automation of this process may be summarised as follows:
